Bus designed & produced by Ryan Gardell

Painted in October 2020

An emblem for kids everywhere, this school bus was a collaborative effort to bring the wheels on the bus to life.

The Making…

The STEM School Bus was an awesome project to undertake.

The idea was to recreate and repaint a school bus for an after school program that would actually excite the students about learning these important life skills in a colorful and inviting way.

We chose each letter of the acronym to represent the field it stands for (i.e.; “S” for science). Within the letters was painted a matching theme to depict that field of study, giving color to the concepts. The turtle characters were also painted as anthropomorphized students and experts of exploration, learning, mathematics, and even spray paint. We sought to create inclusive characters that would motivate the kids to work hard, and also to plant the seed that much like the turtle, great things take time, patience and careful study to come to fruition.

The bus is now housed at the Worcester Youth Center on Chandler Street. We hope the students are enjoying it!
